What is TimeCard?
-----------------
TimeCard is a desk accessory that will keep track of the time you
spend on a particular project. If you use your Atari ST for
professional work then you may find this program useful.
How does it work?
-----------------
Simply select the desk accessory menu " TimeCard v1.01" and the
program will ask you for a timecard (with the extension .CRD). At
this point, you can either choose an existing timecard or create a
new timecard.
By choosing an existing timecard, you will be appending the file--
adding new information--for that particular account. If you
create a new timecard, the program will ask for the name of the
account to whom the time is charged.
After you have openned a new account or an existing account and
you are finished, select the desk accessory menu again and an
ASCII file will be written with the account name and the time
spent on a project.
WARNING: All information is written at the end of a session so if
your computer crashes before you are finished, the information
about the start of the session will be gone and (as a consequence)
the time spent before the crash. Also, this DA is not picky about
what kind of file you select as your Timecard. You could select a
program file and Timecard will amend that file with the time and
date in ASCII. In other words, be careful about what files you
select. As a convenience, I have made *.CRD the default extension
and it is not unlikely that later versions of TimeCard will write
a special ASCII header for Timecard files.
Update notes for version 0.3
----------------------------
This version has been modified to work with NeoDesk v3.0. You can
drag a Timecard to the desk accessory icon if the DA is on the
desktop; you can double-click on the icon to open it up.
Update notes for version 0.75
-----------------------------
This version has been further modified to work with NeoDesk v3.0.
You can now drag a program to be executed from TimeCard. If you
do not drag a TimeCard file with the program and one does not
exist for the program, one will be created. You may also drag
another file to TimeCard to be placed on the program's command
line.
Update notes for version 1.01
-----------------------------
Oooops! Many bugs cropped up in version 0.75. Most of them had
to do with my implementation of the NEOACC structure and procedure
calling conventions. The bugs have been fixed. Only the .CRD
extension will be recognized by the TimeCard icon under NeoDesk.
You may still bypass this limitation through the desk accessory
slot.
In addition, I have added an AutoPunch-Out feature.
AutoPunch-Out has three modes: Ask, Enabled, and Disabled. When
a program terminates inside NeoDesk, the accessories that follow
NeoDesk conventions are called by NeoDesk to tell the accessory
that it is active again. In Ask Mode, the TimeCard dialogue box
pops up and asks if you want to Punch Out. In Enabled Mode,
TimeCard automatically Punches Out without the dialogue box
popping up. In Disable Mode, TimeCard never Punches Out nor will
it bring up the dialogue box; it is up to the user to reaccess
TimeCard by the desk accessory slot or by NeoDesk icon to Punch
Out. The modes may be changed by clicking the mouse on the mode
box in the TimeCard dialogue box.
What's the deal?
----------------
The deal is that this is SHAREWARE. Registration is $15. When
you register, you get TimeCard version 1.05. This includes the
TimeCard Recovery System. If your system crashes or is terminated
for any reason while a TimeCard file is active, upon boot up that
file will be reloaded and the TimeCard dialogue box will pop up
and ask you if you want to Punch Out. This system will also work
with Spectre GCR.
If you have any comments, suggestions, or bug reports, send them
to me at the addresses at the top of this document.
If you program in Modula-2, a version of the NEOACC DEFINITION &
IMPLEMENTATION MODULEs should be available shortly from Gribnif
Software for NeoDesk Developers.
